2009年度に美術科 洋画コースを卒業した荒井志帆（旧姓 高橋志帆）さんが、スイス・シャルメ美術館の「シャルメ・トリエンナーレ（3年に1度開催されるペーパーアートの国際コンクール）」で入選されました。今年度のコンクールには、世界中から379名の応募があり、74名が選出されました。2020年のセレクションでは、17カ国から72名のアーティストによる74作品が展示されます（6月に美術館のウェブサイトに掲載予定）。

作品ステートメント

I chose the thousand-armed Kwannon as a motif to express my thoughts and feelings around the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred in my hometown area on March 11, 2011.

Many lives were taken in the tsunami and the fires during what is considered a one-in-one-thousand-year catastrophe. Time will never completely heal the wounds of such horrors and sorrow. I honor the spirit of those who have sacrificed their own lives to protect their families and comrades and the spirit of those who endured through the devastation.

As such, I was compelled to create a piece as an offering with a prayer for the repose of the departed and a message to future generations of the dignity in perseverance.
The thousand-armed Kwannon is a Bodhisattva who saves man from all sufferings with her many arms. Peace to the souls of the many who have left. Hope to the ones who look ahead and move on.

この作品は、2011年3月11日に私の故郷で起きた東日本大震災で感じた思いを元に千手観音をモチーフに制作しました。

千年に一度と言われるほどの大災害は、津波や火災などで沢山の人の命を奪いました。いくら時間が経とうとも、震災の恐怖や悲しみは癒えることはありません。私は、命の最期まで家族や仲間を守り、生き抜いた人々の魂を気高く思います。

今の私に出来ることは、鎮魂の祈りを作品にし生き抜く気高さを後世に伝えつぐことだと思いました。日本で、千手観音は千の手を持ち沢山の手であらゆる苦しみから人々を救済する神とされています。私はこの作品で、多くの尊い命に安らぎを、未来に向かって生きようとする全ての人に希望を伝えたいと願っています。
