Japanese media, such as movies, animation and computer games, web-sites, and advertisements are affecting the entire world as part of the new Japanese culture, and they not only provide us with culture, amusement, and valuable information, but are powerfully developing as a new industry.

In modern society, a great deal of content is distributed and is linked with other content through the Web. Synchronizing with real society, new business content is produced with the support of ICT technology. Likewise, in northeastern Japan, backed by the accumulation of rich culture, excellent environment and the formation of inter-city business by ICT technology, the potential of content business industry is increasing further. In this situation, Tohoku University of Art and Design's Graduate School Master's program (Sendai school) was established in 2005 on the basis of cooperation with the city of Sendai with the mission to activate content business industry in the area.

In 2008, Tohoku University of Art and Design's Graduate School Master's program (Sendai school) strengthens as a practical content producers', directors' and creators' training institution for future social need by adding Business production fields, such as Advertisement, Branding, Enterprise and Product development, and a Web-business education area to the Content production field.

Focusing on the content business industry, rather than creativity, it is vital to educate students to acquire various kinds of abilities, such as understanding business schemes, marketing, practical producing, advanced concept planning and project management.

In northeastern Japan's rich cultural environment, the students practically acquire the advanced content proposing, planning and producing abilities to develop their work globally, while widely understanding the Japanese content industry and acquiring knowledge such as culture and story telling.

While studying business strategy, such as advertisement, branding and web-based business through practical projects, the students acquire promising enterprise proposal and business developing abilities by making the best use of the content as communication media.

Guidelines for Applicants

1. Number of freshmen to be admitted

About ten freshmen are admitted.

2. Enrollment Schedule

Examination Date: Determined by schedule adjustment after application.

3. Examination subject

Interview: The applicants are required to do a presentation in the interview about their own work or plan. The applicants should select one type of work or plan from Image (Movie, Short-film, Commercial film, Clip, Documentary-films etc.), Animation, Game, Story (Novel, Picture book, Scenario, Cartoon) or Plan-proposal related to above content.

Documents to be submitted: Document for the presentation at the interview should be submitted.

(It should be submitted together with application documents at the time of application.)
